Volkswagen upgrades the 2022 Atlas in two significant ways. The S trim level has been retired, and the Atlas SE is now the base model. Additionally, the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit system is now standard on all trim levels, whereas it was previously exclusive to higher trim levels.
The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is an excellent choice among midsize SUVs. The two-row and three-row models of the Atlas offer spacious seating, a large cargo area, numerous active safety systems, and an intuitive entertainment system. The Atlas rides comfortably and handles well for its size, but its feeble engines and shoddy cabin materials leave more to be wanted.

The Volkswagen Atlas interior design is straightforward and minimalistic, lending the vehicle a touch of luxury. Unfortunately, the illusion becomes less compelling upon closer inspection. The majority of the interior surfaces are trimmed with harsh, low-quality plastics. These panels should withstand usage and abuse well. Still, the overall quality of the Atlas’ materials is a far cry from that of luxury competitors like the Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX-9, and Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
Bluetooth, Atlas Infotainment, and Navigation
The Volkswagen Atlas is offered with a 6.5- or 8-inch touchscreen. Both systems are highly user-friendly, with straightforward menus, sharp visuals, and prompt responses. These screens are supported by conveniently located audio and climate controls, making it simple to modify settings while driving. Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit is also a welcome feature. This digital gauge cluster may be limited to displaying as much or as little information as desired, including a map and route navigation view.
2022 Volkswagen Atlas Safety
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas five out of five ratings for overall safety. The Atlas received five stars for its performance in the side crash test and four stars for its performance in the frontal crash and rollover tests.
