The Passat will be discontinued after the 2022 model year. The S trim, which had previously been the entry-level model, was phased out in favor of the SE trim for 2022. Only 1,973 of these vehicles have been produced by Volkswagen.

Crash Test Results
In all six crash safety tests, the Volkswagen Passat 2022 received the highest Good grade from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The SEL trim achieved a Good rating for forwarding visibility during headlight testing, whereas all other decorations obtained the second-lowest grade of Marginal.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the 2022 Volkswagen Passat a four-out-of-five-star overall safety rating, with three stars in the frontal collision test, five stars in the side crash test, and four stars in the rollover test.
